ENZA Empowering Women is a Icelandic/South African non profit skills development and job creation organisation working with underprivileged women in the Mbekweni area between Paarl and Wellington. ENZA was founded by Ruth Gylfadóttir. Our Mission: To empower women to take charge of their lives, to provide for themselves and thereby build a future for themselves and their families Our Vision: To transform communities and eradicate poverty We Offer: • Computer skills training • Life skills training • Literacy training • Sewing skills training on domestic as well as industrial machines • Business skills training Once the women have successfully completed our life skills and computer training they become part of the ENZA community and are able to register for our other courses. We spend time with each of the women and assist those who do not have an income stream in sourcing employment and job experience opportunities. During 2011 we increased the employment rate of the women who completed their training by 21%. The first group of women doing sewing and business skills training will be completing their course at the end of March 2012. We are excited about this initiative as a source of self employment for a number of the women.
